Caring for Your Baby & Yourself

Our highest priority at the BirthPlace is to give you and your baby the best possible start together. Before you go home, you will have an opportunity to attend the Discharge Instruction Class (offered on the unit) where care for yourself and for your baby is discussed. The nursing staff will teach you how to hold, diaper, bathe, dress and feed your newborn. Questions and concerns from our mothers are more than welcome. Discharge instructions for you and your baby will be provided.

A Newborn Channel, which features programs on baby care and postpartum topics is available in your room 24 hours a day. A video entitled, "Baby's First Months, What Do We Do Now?" will be provided to all of our first time Moms or experienced Moms who wish to have this as a refresher video.  "Baby's First Months" was produced especially for you, the new parent.  It will help make the difficult and apprehensive first few months of your baby's daily care easier for you and baby too.  Every aspect of newborn care is covered in "Baby's First Months."  It reviews solid, how-to information including practical tips about normal newborn appearance, reflexes and behaviors that help new mothers feel confident about childcare.  The video is intended to complement information from your physician, nurse practitioner, or health care provider.  This video presentation is available in both English and Spanish.
