Junior Volunteer Program
FMH's Junior Volunteer program welcomes high school students who have completed the ninth grade, are 14-18 years of age, have a minimum grade point average of 2.0 ("C") and have an interest in a health-related career. Applications accepted on a rolling admission basis. Students are interviewed when openings occur. Contact the Volunteer Office at 240-566-3567 for more information.
At any given time at FMH we have approximately 60 - 80 junior volunteers working at both the Information Desk and the Wings Desk. We rotate our junior volunteer schedule to coincide with your school schedule (fall, spring and summer). There are many reasons students may drop off the schedule or come back to fill spots as their other activities allow. There are always opportunities for new students to slip into available spots.
Right now we have approximately 175 students on our waiting list. Please note that the volunteer office sends out applications as openings in the Junior Program become available. In the spring we are looking for the most replacements because when the students graduate they usually are off the schedule and many adults take off for the summer.
I hope this helps you understand the junior volunteer program. If you are on the waiting list it might be a wait. Call us early. You are eligible to sign up as a Junior volunteer when you have completed 9th grade. If you are a senior in high school and you call you might not get a spot before you graduate.
Volunteering at the hospital can be a very fulfilling and wonderful experience. You have the opportunity to help people in your community and make a difference every time you come in. If you have an interest in healthcare it's a perfect fit. Call our office to have your name placed on our waiting list. We look forward to hearing from you.
