Frederick Memorial Hospital is expanding its award-winning oncology program into a fully integrated, comprehensive Cancer Institute.
We all know that the need is great. Almost all of us have been touched by cancer in some way, either as a cancer survivor or by knowing or caring for someone with the disease. To better serve the citizens of Frederick County and surrounding areas, we need to build an updated facility. This new facility will allow us to provide updated technology for earlier diagnoses and better outcomes, and to expand our capacity for cancer prevention and follow-up care. The intent of this project is to integrate our services into a comprehensive program, with ancillary services in the community closest to where our patients live.
On February 10, 2015, the FMH Board of Directors approved a new location for the Frederick Memorial Hospital Cancer Institute. Instead of building the new state-of-the-art facility on the hospital campus, it will be located at FMH Rose Hill. To learn more about the decision to change locations, please view our news release (PDF). FMH Is expecting to break ground on the new facility in the Spring of 2016 with the intent of opening to patients in the Summer of 2017.
At the heart of the Cancer Institute is a multidisciplinary approach to the diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of the cancer patient. This provides medical oncology, radiation oncology, surgical specialists, and support services to operate under one roof, where the care can truly be centered around the patient and their disease. This process is designed to bring the care providers to the patient, not the other way around. To learn more about this project, please download our FMH Cancer Institute Case for Support (PDF). The future of this project largely depends upon our success in securing private financial support. With a projected cost of more than $20 million, we need the continued financial support from individuals, business and foundations in our community. To date, the FMH Development Council has raised more than $12 million toward our $15 million campaign goal. If you have made a gift in any amount to The Time is Now campaign, please accept our heartfelt thanks. We would especially like to thank those individuals/businesses who have made a leadership gift to the campaign. These contributions are highlighted in our most recent Donor Report (PDF).
With your support we will move one step closer to being able to build the expanded facility our top-notch cancer program needs to continue to grow, thrive and save lives.
