Located on the second floor of the hospital, the Pediatric Emergency Department (Peds ED) is designed to meet the urgent and critical medical needs of pediatric patients in an environment that is quiet, calm and secure. Because the new Peds ED is located on the pediatric inpatient unit, the team of pediatric specialists who care for the patients in the emergency setting will continue to provide their care should they require admission to the hospital. A consistent care team ensures coordinated, quality pediatric care, and provides the calming confidence of familiar faces that our pediatric patients find comforting.
An entire team of Pediatric Hospitalists is available to provide around-the-clock pediatric care, led by Dr. Robert Wack. All of the Pediatric Hospitalists are experts in the care of hospitalized pediatric patients, and some of them have additional training in pediatric emergency care.
KayLo Pediatric Care Unit
The KayLo Pediatric Care Unit was made possible through the generosity of the Nora Roberts Foundation
The KayLo Pediatric Care Unit is a 12-bed outpatient and inpatient care unit designed for the care and comfort of children from infancy to 17 years of age.
Our Pediatric staff is committed to providing excellent medical care to your child in a family-centered, safe and caring environment. We're also focused on alleviating the stresses and worries associated with your child’s hospital admission through open communication and a partnership in caring.
The Pediatric Unit cares for short-stay patients (those not requiring an overnight stay) and provides comprehensive inpatient care as well. Care is provided under the supervision of physicians on the Medical Staff of FMH. Pediatricians, specialized nurse practitioners, family practice physicians and medical specialists supervise the care of our young patients. The vast majority of physicians providing services have their office practices in Frederick County. This helps to ensure a smooth transition from hospital care provided at FMH to follow-up care in the community.
Skilled nursing staff trained to pay attention to the special needs of our pediatric patients is available in our Emergency Department and our designated Pediatric Inpatient Unit. Facilities are adjusted to provide a true pediatric environment to enhance the comfort and well being of our patients and their families while at FMH. FMH strongly encourages parents to "Room-In" with their hospitalized child.
