Maryland Health Connection

Maryland’s hospitals play a vital role in their communities, providing not only access to needed health care services but also connections to health coverage. Beginning October 1, 2013, nearly 250,000 uninsured and underinsured Marylanders (including more than 20,000 in Frederick County) can enroll in qualified health plans through Maryland’s new health insurance marketplace — Maryland Health Connection—or through the newly expanded Medicaid program.

Here in Frederick County, the Door to HealthCare (a program of Healthy Howard, Inc.) is taking the lead to raise awareness among residents about new benefits under the Affordable Care Act. The Door is now providing hands-on assistance for residents who want to enroll in a new health plan. The Door to HealthCare was selected as one of six regional “Connector Entities” that will help Marylanders access affordable health coverage through the state’s newly created health insurance marketplace.

The Door to HealthCare is setting up locations throughout Frederick County where trained professionals will assist you for free in signing up for coverage.

Visit one of these locations for assistance:

  • Asian American Center of Frederick 629 N. Market Street Frederick, MD 21701 (301) 694-3355
  • Frederick County Dept of Social Services 520 N. Market Street Frederick, MD 21701 (301) 698-9939
  • Frederick County Health Dept 350 Montevue Lane Frederick, MD 21702 (301) 600-1029
  • Frederick County Community Action Agency 100 S. Market Street Frederick, MD 21701 (301) 600-1506

You can also reach the experts at Door to HealthCare by email or by calling 1-855-288-DOOR (3667).

FMH will have an enroller on site periodically to enroll patients who are visiting the hospital for medical services. The hospital is not an open enrollment location for non-patients at this time.

Proceed with caution!

We're hearing reports from members of the community who have found themselves inundated with calls from solicitors after visiting what they thought was a legitimate, state-government-affiliated healthcare marketplace website. Please know that your best, most reliable sources for accurate Affordable Care Act information are the Door to Healthcare and the Maryland Health Connection.

If you're looking for information for a friend or loved one who doesn't live here in Maryland, we suggest taking a look at Consumer Reports' Health Law Helper.
